One Israeli was killed and two were wounded Friday evening in a mortar attack launched from the Gaza Strip.
Two mortars struck Kibbutz Kfar Aza shortly after the Sabbath began.
A 40-year old Kibbutz resident was killed while standing in his garden, according to reports published immediately after the attack.
Two people were lightly wounded when a mortar detonated near a community hall.
Knesset Member Shai Hermseh, who is also a member of the kibbutz, described the situation as "unbearable."
"Not fortifying our houses or taking any action, we live in a firing range," he said.
A barrage of nine Kassam rockets and a number of mortars were fired into the Negev during the day Friday.
Senior IDF officers have this past week criticised the Olmert government for not allowing the military to respond effectively to the daily terrorist rocket firings from Gaza.
